What does DNC or Opt-Out mean?
Updated over a week ago

DNC stands for "Do Not Call”. Opt-out means the contact asks to be removed from future communication with your organization. Opt-outs can be done for calls, texts and a combination of both.

Opt-outs are serious. They are directly covered under legal protections in Canada and the United States under the CAN-SPAM, CASL, TCR, TCPA and the Telemarketing act, to name a few. They prevent your organization from reaching out to talk to this customer about their account once a customer has asked not to be contacted again. Opt-outs can last several years or forever, depending on the state or territory.

Automatic Opt-Outs

Opt-Outs can be proceeded behind the scenes by your organization via flat file or API integration. If an account becomes DNC, these will auto-scrub accounts and contacts from your workflow.

Contacts can also text keywords in text messages such as STOP, STOPALL, CANCEL, END, QUIT, and UNSUBSCRIBE in both English and French.

If your organization offers an opt-out page or uses our generic one, this can also capture DNC information to opt a customer out of communication.

Contacts can reverse the DNC request and opt-in to communications by texting the following prompts: START, YES, UNSTOP.

Manual Opt-Outs

Depending on your organization's settings and permissions, you may be able to perform a manual opt-out of a customer. This can be done through Log an Activity. Users with advanced opt-out management can adjust settings through Edit a Contact.
